Online Staff Report

The Rock Valley College (RVC) Center for Learning in Retirement will host its annual meeting from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Aug. 10, in the Physical Education Center (PEC) on the RVC main campus, 3301 N. Mulford Road.

The event is free and open to the public, and provides an opportunity for those ages 50 and older to find out what the Center for Learning in Retirement (CLR) at RVC has to offer. Many short-term educational and fun classes are offered, along with bus trips, social events, a fitness program, volunteer opportunities and much more.

Those who attend the annual meeting will be among the first to receive the fall 2011 CLR catalog and be able to register early for any of the 156 fall classes.

Following the introduction of the 2011-2012 CLR Advisory Committee, attendees will hear about the exciting things planned for the fall semester and be treated to a program where history will come alive.

In honor of the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War, Edward Finch, retired educator, published author and director of the Stephenson County Historical Society and Museum, will provide a presentation through his portrayal of a Civil War Naval Captain. He will share tales of his service aboard ships on the Mississippi and Red rivers and other interesting war experiences. Door prize drawings and complimentary refreshments will follow the program.

Close parking will be available in RVC Lot  No. 1 off the Mulford Road entrance to the college.
