Police look for clues in Aug. 8 homicide on Rockford’s west side

At 11:05 p.m., Monday, Aug. 8, Rockford police officers responded to the 2900 block of West State Street in reference to a shooting investigation.
When they arrived, officers located 41-year-old Byron Hancock, who was suffering from gunshot wounds. Hancock was transported to a local hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.
Rockford police detectives are conducting a homicide investigation and are asking anyone with information to call the shift commander at (815) 987-5824 or Crime Stoppers at (815) 963-7867.
