Online Staff Report
Windsor Auto Sales in Loves Park, Ill., is hosting several “Race for Hunger” events to support the Rock River Valley Food Pantry.
“This is our second year sponsoring events for the Food Pantry,” said Nick Shutkas, owner of Windsor Auto Sales. “Last year, we raised over $8,000. This year, we hope to do even more to make people aware that there are many people in Rockford that need help.”
Windsor Auto Sales is asking everyone to view their website for details about each upcoming event, including Windsor Music Night, Friday, Aug. 12, at the Sinnissippi Park Music Shell. Join them for a night of music with Rockford’s band Common Ground and special guest vocalist Danielle Juhre, from Rockton Hononegah High School.
Windsor’s Wine Tasting Night will be hosted Aug. 19 at Artale Wine, 6876 Spring Creek Road, with appetizers by Joseph’s. All proceeds will benefit the Rock River Valley Pantry. Shutkas will present a check to the food pantry at Windsor Auto Night, Saturday, Aug. 27, at Rockford Speedway. This final event features the fun-filled Nick’s Beatin’ ’N’ Bangin’ Boat Race. Attendees can save $2 off the Speedway ticket price that night by purchasing a purple “Race for Hunger” wristband available at Windsor Auto Sales or any other event listed on the website at www.windsorautoinc.com.
The Rock River Valley Food Pantry served more than 1.5 million pounds of food to the people in Rockford last year. Kim Adams-Bakke, executive director of the Food Pantry, said: “The Food Pantry is serving over 7,000 people a month, and 40 percent of our clients are children. Windsor Auto Sales has become a tremendous partner in helping feed Rockford, one meal at a time.”
