Kaitlyn Mary Miller Memorial Golf Outing Aug. 12 at Swan Hills
Online Staff Report
Friday, Aug. 12, Keith Country Day School and the Miller family will host the Fourth Annual Kaitlyn Mary Miller Memorial Golf Outing at Swan Hills Golf Course. The event will benefit the Kaitlyn Mary Miller Merit Scholarship, which was established in 2007 by her family to memorialize Kaitlyn in an honorable and befitting manner.
More than 100 golfers are expected to participate. Since the event’s inception, more than $120,000 has been raised to support scholarships for students who excel academically, athletically and have an affinity toward the fine arts.
“The Miller family has been incredible generous with their time and contacts to help us put this event on each year,” said Alan Gibby, head of Keith Country Day School. “It is an honor for us to host a scholarship in Kaitlyn’s name because she exemplified so many of the characteristics we want all of our students to embrace.”
In June 2009, Chloe Hadavas was the first high school student awarded a four-year Kaitlyn Mary Miller Merit Scholarship, followed by Christina Shields in 2010 and Jessamyn Fisher in 2011. The goal for both the Miller family and Keith Country Day School is to create a perpetual fund. Keith was Kaitlyn’s greatest and most appreciated gift, and for that reason, her Keith legacy will be to “pass on” an opportunity for future students to pursue their dreams.
Scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start, the outing will be a classic four-person scramble, with prizes awarded on certain holes, and an honorary award for the best score. Prior to the golfers taking the course, each competitor will participate in a ceremonial red balloon launch in honor of Kaitlyn.
Registration will begin at 11 a.m. Following the event, dinner will be served and prizes will be awarded. Cost is $90 per golfer. Spots are still available for sponsors at $200. Non-golfers can also participate in the event by attending the post-tournament dinner. Dinner tickets can be purchased for $20 each.
