Witness in Barmore shooting guilty of three unrelated counts of disorderly conduct

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announced Aug. 17 that Marissa L. Brown, 19, was found guilty after a jury trial in front of Judge Rosemary Collins of three counts of disorderly conduct. She was also found not guilty of one count of disorderly conduct.
Jan. 5, 2010, Brown committed the offense of disorderly conduct by communicating to Rockford Public School officials and the Rockford Police Department that she was the victim of an aggravated assault at Roosevelt Alternative High School while knowing there was no reasonable grounds for believing the offense had been committed. Specifically, Brown told school officials and police officers a male had pointed a gun at her in a bathroom at Roosevelt School.
Disorderly conduct is a class 4 felony, which carries a potential sentencing range of one to three years in the Department of Corrections or up to 30 months probation for each count with a one-year mandatory supervised release should a Department of Corrections term be imposed.
Sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, in courtroom 478 with Judge Rosemary Collins.
Brown is also facing a contempt-of-court case with her mother, Sheila Brown. That case is related to the Aug. 24, 2009, police-involved shooting death of Mark Anthony Barmore, to which she was a witness.
The Brown family ran the House of Grace Day Care at Kingdom Authority International Ministries, 518 N. Court St., where Barmore was fatally shot by two officers in the basement.
