Pro Baseball: Shooters offers bus trip to Milwaukee for Cubs-Brewers game

Now that I’m officially middle aged, bus parties to sporting events don’t have the same appeal to me they did 20 or so years ago. I’m no longer enticed by the lure of unlimited swill beer and all the spicy sausages I can devour prior to the game. At one time, though, several of my buddies and I might have considered that a gourmet meal. Times have definitely changed.

Now, I’d much rather stay home and watch the game on my big screen and enjoy only one or two of those spicy sausages and the same number of adult beverages (or, perhaps, even a diet soft drink), instead of a six-pack or more of each. I’m just not that interested in having to turn the game into a full-blown party.

However, I did recently come across a flier that caught my eye. Shooters Bar and Grill is sponsoring a trip to Milwaukee this Saturday (Aug. 27) to see the Cubs take on the Brewers. The thing that really got my attention was the mode of round-trip transportation they are using.

It is the new Double Decker Van Galder Bus. I think that would be a cool way to travel up to “Wrigley North” and see the game. The cost of the trip is $90 per person and is limited to the first 39 people. That is another thing that appeals to me. You won’t have to be crammed on a bus with 60 or more other fans. I’m seriously considering going just for the bus ride.

The bus leaves from Forest Hills Lanes at 1 p.m. Game time is 6:10 p.m. For more information about the trip or to reserve your spot, call Shooters Bar and Grill at (815) 654-3900.

For those of you who are still young enough to appreciate it, the flier does say there will be “Lots of beer, pop, water and food.” Some things never change!
