Stenstrom gets $2.15 million for Phase II of Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens, Winnebago County gives $800,000 to project

Local construction contractor Stenstrom Companies, Ltd., has been awarded its bid of $2.15 million for the construction of Phase II of Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens.
The Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners voted to accept the company’s bid at a special meeting Aug. 29.
Phase II construction will include the construction of a retaining wall and lagoon overlook deck; infinity pond; pedestrian bridge; water features; paths and landscaping; and sitting areas.
Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens is set to open at the end of October. Stenstrom Companies, Ltd., is at 2420 20th St., Rockford.
A resolution between Winnebago County Board, Rockford Park District and the Rockford Park District Foundation was also approved at the meeting. Under the resolution, the Winnebago County Board will provide $800,000 for Phase II construction.
According to the Illinois State Board of Elections’ website, Robert Stenstrom of Stenstrom Companies, Ltd., has made 50 donations for a total of more than $40,000 to local and state political campaigns.
