Construction on Whitman Street Bridge Interchange begins Sept. 6
Online Staff Report
Starting Tuesday, Sept. 6, the Whitman Street Bridge Interchange will be under construction. This project will provide various repairs to all City of Rockford-owned ramps throughout the interchange. Construction is anticipated to be complete by early November.
Planned repairs include removal of loose debris, pothole patching, full-width repaving and various utility improvements. Throughout the construction process, one ramp will be completely closed to traffic each day to complete repairs. Each ramp will then be re-opened to traffic at night.
Traffic patterns may change periodically throughout the day. No official detour routes will be provided. Changeable message boards will be set up to provide guidance to motorists. Vehicles are encouraged to find alternate routes when possible to avoid traveling through the work zone.
Construction crews will be working in close proximity to traffic during this project, and so motorists are being asked to pay close attention when approaching and driving through the work zone.
