School district holds Parent Leadership Conference Sept. 10

Parents interested in learning about ways to get involved in Rockford schools are invited to attend the 2011 Parent Leadership Conference from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 10, at Rockford Environmental Science Academy, 1800 Ogilby Road.
The event is designed to encourage parents to become partners in the educational process and get involved at their child’s school. Conference topics include tips on ways to start and maintain a parent-teacher organization and which fund-raisers have proven successful for schools.
A presentation will also be given on the new Parent Portal, an online tool that will give parents access to information, such as attendance, grades and schedules for their children. The program provides another tool parents can use to communicate with teachers.
Superintendent Robert Willis will give the welcome message, and Paul Logli, CEO of the United Way of Rock River Valley, will give the keynote address. Other guest speakers include Kelli Falzone and Sara Gonzalez from Strengthening Families Illinois.
Food will be provided by Texas Roadhouse.
