Two area men charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver

The State Line Area Narcotics Team (SLANT), in conjunction with Loves Park and Rockford police, have arrested two area men on drug charges.

Rafael Monjaraz, 17, 4041 Renn Hart Hills Road, Loves Park, and Jonathan S. Rodriguez, 27, 1400 Nettle St., Belvidere, were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, a class X felony.

The arrest of Monjaraz and Rodriguez comes after narcotics agents intercepted a package containing 22 pounds of cannabis that was being shipped from California to Monjaraz. Monjaraz and Rodriguez were arrested after they took possession of the package.

Class X felonies are punishable by six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Monjaraz and Rodriguez were incarcerated at the Winnebago County Jail.
