Online Staff Report
Rockford Symphony Orchestra (RSO) has announced the sixth season of SoundBites, the lunchtime discussion series hosted by Music Director Steven Larsen.
SoundBites is an engaging and entertaining prelude to the RSO concert experience. The discussions begin at noon the Friday before each RSO Classics Series concert, and will take place at Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club, 5151 Guilford Road.
The SoundBites lunchtime series includes informal discussions featuring Larsen and a variety of exciting guest musicians who will perform with the RSO on concerts throughout the season.
SoundBites is free, although reservations are strongly recommended. SoundBites guests may bring their own lunch and beverage, or order from the club’s menu. Cash or checks only are accepted for lunch orders.
The topics for each SoundBites vary, offering a personal perspective by the particular guest musician featured at the discussion. Insights into the performers’ backgrounds and their reflections on the music they will perform with the RSO are major features of the series. Ample opportunity exists for those attending the discussions to join in with questions or comments.
The first 2010/11 season SoundBites is Friday, Sept. 16, and features renowned pianist David Syme. Syme will perform George Gershwin’s luscious Piano Concerto in F with the RSO Saturday, Sept. 17.
This will be Syme’s third appearance with the RSO. He begins his concert season with the RSO, then travels to Boston, Philadelphia, Washington and several Arizona communities before traveling to the Czech Republic and Russia for a tour including six recitals.
Other SoundBites include Brad Leibl, tenor, Nov. 11; Mike Alongi, accordion, Jan. 13, 2012; Michele Lekas, violin and RSO concertmaster, Feb. 10, 2012; and Nanette Felix, RSO principal harp, March 29. A guest has yet to be announced for the April 20, 2012, SoundBites.
