Sheriff’s Department in search of suspect in Sept. 15 hit-and-run of squad car

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warrant for Kerry O. Williams, 24, of Rockford.

Williams is the suspect in the Sept. 15 hit-and-run of a Winnebago County Sheriff’s Police squad car. The warrant is for leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to provide information.

At approximately 11:51 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, a Winnebago County Sheriff’s Police marked squad car, driven by a male deputy, was headed south in the 1200 block of North Main Street. A northbound vehicle crossed over the center line and struck the squad. The deputy driving the squad was not injured, although the squad sustained heavy damage.

The offending vehicle, which also was heavily damaged, continued northbound and was found abandoned on Reynolds Avenue. The male driver fled on foot.

The suspect vehicle, a brown 1995 Cadillac four-door, was impounded.
