Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful, GiGi’s Playhouse Rockford, Sinnissippi Centers, Inc., winners in RK Dixon contest

After more than 63,980 total online votes were counted, Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful (KNIB) was proclaimed one of the $5,000 winners of RK Dixon’s 2011 Make My Non-Profit Run Better contest.
Officials from RK Dixon, a leading provider of copiers, printers, IT solutions, managed print services and pure drinking water systems, announced on WIFR-TV that KNIB will receive the contest’s third prize, consisting of a Canon multi-function printer selected by RK Dixon valued at up to $5,000.
GiGi’s Playhouse Rockford and Sinnissippi Centers, Inc. were selected as the runner-ups in the Rockford area and will both receive a Canon printer valued at $1,000. The contest’s top prize went to the Hult Center for Health Education & Cancer Center for Healthy Living in Peoria, Ill.
The Make My Non-Profit Run Better contest is designed to improve the efficiency of a local non-profit group by enhancing its technological capabilities and making it easier to focus on its mission.
Formed in 1988, KNIB is dedicated to educating, developing public awareness and providing service to the citizens of northern Illinois with regard to the abatement of litter, the preservation of our local resources and the management of solid waste.
John Kloster-Prew, KNIB director of community support, said: “As a community green organization, we must lead by example. Our office has limited printing capabilities and doesn’t have a copier, which means we have to rely on outside sources for large printing and copying needs, requiring us to utilize staff to drive and pick up the copies. This is hard for a ‘green’ organization to justify to the community. RK Dixon will be able to help our office be more productive, efficient and ‘green’ and allow us to do more for the community and environment.”
Representatives from RK Dixon will visit the Rockford facility to install the brand-new, multi-function device and tailor the machine to fulfill the organization’s specific needs.
Bryan Dixon, president and CEO of RK Dixon, added: “This contest has been such a rewarding way for RK Dixon to give back to the local non-profits. The response was incredible. There were more than 63,980 total online votes during the two voting phases. The real highlight of the contest for us will come when the organizations begin to see improvement in their day-to-day business and they are better able to serve the very people that cast those votes.”
When the contest began July 26, 157 non-profit organizations from eastern Iowa, Illinois and southern Wisconsin were in the running for the grand prize. Organizations encouraged supporters to vote for them online at the RK Dixon website, www.rkdixon.com [1]. Using the online voting system, the list was narrowed to a group of 20 finalists.
