Violence Prevention Collaborative luncheon Sept. 26

The Violence Prevention Collaborative will host its annual Peace Awards, along with a seminar, “Introduction to Gang Violence,” Monday, Sept. 26, at Franchesco’s Ristorante.
The seminar runs 9-11:15 a.m., with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Peace Awards luncheon begins at 11:45 a.m. Registration fee of $35 includes continental breakfast, seminar materials and the Peace Awards luncheon.
Members of the Rockford Police Department Gang Unit, along with Michelle Courier, Boone County State’s Attorney, will be the featured seminar presenters.
The Violence Prevention Collaborative will honor one individual and one organization with the 2011 Partner for Peace Award during the luncheon, chosen from nominations received from the community. A Pioneer in Peace Award, chosen by committee, will also be given to an individual or group who has demonstrated a long-term commitment and dedication to violence prevention.
The awards will be presented by Doug Scott, chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission and former Rockford mayor. This year’s emcee is Paul Logli, CEO of United Way of Rock River Valley. The cost to attend the luncheon is $25.
The Violence Prevention Collaborative is composed of more than 20 formal members from the community, social service agencies, grassroots organizations, faith-based organizations, law enforcement, health care, education and judicial sectors. The Violence Prevention Collaborative focuses on child abuse, elder abuse, youth violence, partner abuse and community violence.
