Rockford man arrested on drug, weapons charges

Samuel L. Ellis, 36, of Rockford, has been arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, no F.O.I.D. card and possession of less than 15 grams of a substance containing cocaine.

Members of the Rockford Police Department’s Narcotics Unit had been investigating the sale of illegal narcotics that had been reported to be taking place at 829 Buckbee, upper apartment. As a result of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained and executed Oct. 5 by the Rockford Police Department’s Narcotics Unit and M3 Streets team.

One adult male and a female were located on the scene. During a search of the residence, detectives located and recovered suspected crack and a 9mm handgun. The male occupant, who was identified as Ellis, was arrested and is lodged at Winnebago County Jail. The female was released without charges.
