Rockford Symphony Orchestra (RSO) opens the Pops Series Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Coronado Performing Arts Center, 314 N. Main St., Rockford. The concert features Broadway singers Nat Chandler, who performed with the RSO last fall, and Teri Dale Hansen.

The audience will be swept away by lush arrangements of the timeless tunes of Henry Mancini, including “Moon River” and “The Days of Wine and Roses,” and orchestral features such as the “The Baby Elephant Walk,” “Theme from Peter Gunn,” “The Pink Panther” and “Victor Victoria.” The performance will also feature popular songs by contemporaries of Mancini, including Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter and Johnny Mercer.

Tickets for this concert are available online at www.rockfordsymphony.com or by calling the RSO Box Office at (815) 965-0049. Ticket prices range from $18 to $56.

Under the artistic leadership of Music Director Steven Larsen, the RSO is a leading arts organization in the Rockford area and the third-largest symphony orchestra in the state of Illinois. The RSO is composed of 85 professional musicians who perform 17 concerts per year — including classics, pops, ballet and opera — for an estimated annual audience of 30,000. The RSO was named the 2007 Orchestra of the Year for Illinois.
