25th CROP Hunger Walk set for Oct. 16
Online Staff Report
The 25th Annual Rockford Area CROP Hunger Walk will be Sunday, Oct. 16, at Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main St., next to Discovery Center. Registration will take place at 1 p.m., and step-off begins at 2 p.m.
This year, the CROP Hunger Walk celebrates 25 years of walking. The purpose is to raise money from the walkers who find sponsors. More than 45 religious and civic organizations as well as businesses support more than 300 walkers.
Last year, the walk raised $44,000; this year, the goal is 400 walkers and a total of $50,000. The money is shared with local food pantries and worldwide hunger relief through Church World Service, the largest and best equipped distributor. People are welcome to designate other overseas relief organizations as well.
Chairman of the CROP Hunger Walk is the Rev. David Jones of First Presbyterian Church, who has led the walk for the last five years. He is a retired Presbyterian clergyman, is chairman of the committee, and recruits churches, schools and other organizations to participate.
For more details or to volunteer, call the Rev. David Jones at (815) 540-3703 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
