Free services offered to veterans at Oct. 26 Veterans’ Stand Down

Area veterans are invited to the 2011 Top of Illinois Veterans’ Stand Down from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Verdi Hall Club, 782 N. Madison St. in Rockford.

Starting at 9 a.m., coffee and doughnuts will be available, and a hot lunch will be served from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at no cost.

The Veterans Administration will offer free medical and dental examinations; if any serious problems are detected, visitors will be referred for further treatment at a VA health clinic.

Employment consultations will be given by the Vet Center, the Veterans Administration and the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. Clothing distribution as needed, barber and beautician services will also be offered for free.
