Rockford’s SwedishAmerican Hospital wins eighth consecutive Consumer Choice Award

SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford has received the 2011-2012 Consumer Choice Award from National Research Corporation (NRC), a leader in health care performance measurement.
The award identifies hospitals health care consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image in more than 300 markets throughout the United States.
This is the eighth consecutive time SwedishAmerican has received this recognition.
“We’re very pleased that, once again, Rockford-area residents have named us as their hospital of choice,” said Dr. Bill Gorski, president and CEO for SwedishAmerican. “The Consumer Choice Award is a reflection of the quality care that SwedishAmerican’s staff, physicians and volunteers provide to our patients every day.”
Susan L. Henricks, president and chief operating officer at NRC, added: “Consumers are taking a more proactive role in their health care decisions and demanding higher quality. In a constantly changing health care industry, consumer perception is becoming more and more vital to the success of all hospitals. At NRC, we know it is imperative to learn from the patient’s experience in order to improve the quality of care. The Consumer Choice Award recognizes those facilities that are meeting or exceeding the needs of consumers — their patients.”
Winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected in NRC’s Ticker Survey. This study surveys more than 250,000 households representing more than 450,000 consumers in the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia. From the households surveyed, 3,200 hospitals named by consumers are analyzed and ranked based on their Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, with the winning facilities being ranked the highest.
NRC’s Ticker Survey is the nation’s largest and most comprehensive study of its kind. No other study measures hospital performance and preferences and contains more consumer responses than NRC’s study.
SwedishAmerican is a not-for-profit, locally governed health care system, with headquarters in Rockford. The health system is composed of two hospitals, 30 clinics, a home health care agency, a foundation and an exclusive affiliation with UW Health in northern Illinois.
