Runner’s Image donates landscaping to beautify city lot
Runner’s Image, a downtown mainstay since 1983, is partnering with J Carlson Growers Inc. and the City of Rockford to plant trees and 200 perennials to beautify the City Parking Lot M at South Madison and Walnut streets.
The City of Rockford Public Works Department and associates from J Carlson worked several hours Friday, Oct. 14, to plant two Peking Lilac trees. Steve Jaycox and Anthony Haynie of Runner’s Image and Don Carlyle of Carlyle Brewing Co. dug the holes in preparation for the planting.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this collaboration to beautify the area,” said Jaycox. “Tim Hanson and Mark Stockman and the crews from the City of Rockford were a pleasure to work with, and J Carlson Growers was immensely helpful with assistance in planting the trees.”
Runner’s Image is donating $1,000, plus labor, for the project; J Carlson is providing the trees and perennials at substantial savings; and Rockford Ald. Doug Mark is assisting with funding. Jaycox will be preparing the ground with compost this fall with the assistance of several volunteers from the area, and planting most of the perennials in the spring.
