Man sentenced to 15 years for possession with intent to deliver cocaine

Myron D. Dawn, 40, was sentenced to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by Judge Ron White for the offense of possessing with the intent to deliver 1 gram or more but less than 15 grams of a substance containing cocaine while in a drug-free zone. The defendant had previously been found guilty of this offense following a three-day jury trial.
This offense was a result of the Rockford City Police Department’s Narcotics Unit following up on a complaint that drugs were possibly being sold from 1603 Burton St. in Rockford. During the course of that investigation, the police located Dawn inside the residence, along with 7.3 grams of a substance later determined to be cocaine, $270 in United States currency, and other indicia of drug dealing.
Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance is a class X felony with a penalty range of six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, plus three years mandatory supervised release.
