Local veterinary hospital joins FoA’s vigorous spay-neuter effort

DARIEN, Conn. — Since 1957, Friends of Animals (FoA), an internationally-known advocacy group, has been on the forefront of the movement to promote and assist in affordable spaying and neutering for dogs and cats.
“These humane and effective surgeries prevent abandonment, homelessness and routine killings,” said Priscilla Feral, president of Friends of Animals.
“We are gratified to have Animal Hospital of Loves Park join FoA’s affordable cat and dog breeding control program, to avert the disaster of accidental pregnancies, health risks and behavior problems,” Feral said.
The deaths of cats and dogs in U.S. pounds and animal shelters declined to 3.6 million as a result of spay/neuter efforts, especially low-cost services that resonate in a difficult economy, coupled with No-Kill shelter strategies, Friends of Animals reports.
The pioneer of the spay/neuter certificate system, FoA helps to sterilize — in cooperation with a network of 700 affiliated veterinarians in 35 states — nearly 40,000 animals in the U.S. each year. The organization has provided affordable or subsidized procedures for more than 2.5 million cats and dogs to date.
