U.S. Rep. Don Manzullo (R-16) kicked off his 2012 re-election campaign Nov. 13.

Manzullo told hundreds of supporters at a Rockford fund-raiser Nov. 13 that he will file petitions later this month to run for re-election in Illinois’ 16th Congressional District, a district he has represented since 1993.

While he will run in the 16th District, Manzullo does not yet know the boundaries of the district, as the Congressional redistricting map enacted by Illinois Democrats earlier this year is being challenged in court as an illegal gerrymander.

Manzullo believes the federal courts will throw out the Democrat map later this month and enact an alternative map that doesn’t disenfranchise minority voters and doesn’t overturn the results of the last election.

A three-judge federal panel will convene a hearing on the lawsuit Nov. 17 and is expected to rule on the matter by the end of November.

“Our great nation is at a crossroads right now with too many Americans out of work and the government plunging deeper and deeper into debt every day,” Manzullo said. “I have the conservative credentials, the leadership experience, and the plans necessary to help put Americans back to work and to get our great country back on the road to prosperity. While I don’t know exactly what the district will look like, I’m definitely running in the 16th District because my home is in both the map enacted by Illinois Democrats as well as the alternative map.”

In Washington, Manzullo is chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific. He is also a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee.

Manzullo is also chairman of the U.S.-Canada Interparliamentary Exchange, and he co-founded and is co-chairman of the 80-member House Manufacturing Caucus.
