The Beloit International Film Festival (BIFF) has chosen Rockford to serve as host location for a series of movies at Franchesco’s Ristorante and the Sullivan Theater during the 2012 festival.
This is the first year Rockford will serve as a host site for films during the event. The Rockford activities, known as BIFF@Rockford, allow the Rockford Region to be a regional player in this internationally-acclaimed festival.
“Expanding this festival into the Rockford Region just makes sense,” said the festival’s executive director, Rod Beaudoin. “The festival has become widely popular and continues to grow. By finding new locations, we can further expand the festival and benefit as a region.”
BIFF@Rockford will include all Rockford Region BIFF activities from the preview film to the actual festival and everything in between.
BIFF is a four-day event showcasing approximately 140 films and filmmakers from around the world. The festival features international films including a wide variety of local and regional productions.
A preview event in Rockford will showcase one of the most popular family films from the 2011 festival, Snowmen. Snowmen features three small-town boys who create a scheme to seek fame by setting a Guinness World Record. Their experience teaches them a valuable lesson that friendship is more important than fame.
This wonderful family film was regionally produced and has not yet been widely released. Two special showings will take place in Rockford Thanksgiving weekend. See it at 2 or 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 26, at New Sullivan Theater, 118 N. Main St. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and youth. Tickets are available at Rockford Area Arts Council; Blackhawk Bank, 2475 N. Perryville Road and 5206 Elevator Road; Franchesco’s; and at the door if seats are available.
“The preview event is the perfect opportunity for people to become familiar with what BIFF is and what it has to offer. It will give them a taste of the overall experience,” said Sales and Marketing Consultant Jayme K. Bastian.
BIFF Rockford is sponsored by Rockford Area Arts Council, Jayme and Rick Bastian, Blackhawk Bank, Schirger Law Offices, LLC, The Element, Franchesco’s, Kryptonite, and Rockford Visitors & Convention Bureau.
