Madigan’s office to offer help for Rockford homeowners

Staff Report

Homeowners struggling to keep up with their mortgage payments can find help in avoiding foreclosure at a Help for Homeowners event, hosted by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office.

Madigan’s office, together with state Sen. Dave Syverson, R-Rockford, and state Rep. Chuck Jefferson, D-Rockford, will hold the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Hilton Garden Inn Rockford, 7675 Walton St.

Attorney General housing counselors will be available to meet individually with homeowners and provide important information about preventing foreclosure and avoiding foreclosure rescue scams.

Madigan’s office has held similar events throughout Illinois to help residents seek loan modifications, a move aimed at reducing their monthly mortgage payments and avoiding foreclosure.

The Attorney General created the “Help for Homeowners” events to assist the thousands of Illinois residents caught up in the national foreclosure crisis. Madigan also launched her Homeowner Helpline, staffed during regular business hours by Attorney General housing counselors who provide one-on-one assistance to homeowners who are facing foreclosure or have been victimized by a foreclosure rescue scam.

Madigan urged homeowners in crisis to contact the Helpline for assistance at (866) 544-7151.
