Christmas Belles is a Southern comedy written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. All three playwrights were born and raised in the pre-Wal-Mart South, and cherish their heritage.
Texas will never be the same! When the three Futrelle sisters take the reins of the local Christmas Pageant, chaos ensues. Honey Raye — fighting hot flashes — juggles a Santa passing a kidney stone, her cast dropping like flies from last night’s pancake supper, and a hateful sheep. Meanwhile, her sister Frankie, pregnant with a surprise set of twins who are refusing to be born, harbors a secret from her sisters that she is trying to find the right time to reveal. Twink Futrelle, on work-release from her jail stint for accidentally burning down half the town, is more interested in revenge on her ex-boyfriend than on helping make “Bethlehem-A-Palooza” a success.
This production — complete with a heartfelt telling of the Christmas story, an Elvis impersonator and second chances — promises to make you laugh until you cry and send you home remembering family is the best gift of all.
Pec Playhouse Theatre is at 314 Main St., Pecatonica, Ill.
