Man guilty of aggravated battery with a firearm in 2009 shooting

Randy Bowman, 34, was found guilty Nov. 17 of two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm after a trial jury in front of Judge John Truitt.
Oct. 11, 2009, police officers responded to a residence on South Henrietta, where they located Jimmy Lewis, who had been shot in his left side and in his left leg. Witnesses testified that Bowman had come to the residence with a firearm and shot at Lewis several times, striking Lewis in the abdomen and thigh.
Aggravated battery with a firearm is a class X felony with a sentencing range of six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, to be followed by three years of mandatory supervised release. However, because of the defendant’s criminal history, the sentencing range is extended-term eligible, which increases the range to six to 60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Truth in sentencing mandates the defendant serve 85 percent of his sentence.
Sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Dec. 20, before Judge Truitt.
