Occupy Rockford to march Nov. 26 against city’s decision to remove street lights

Occupy Rockford will march at 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 26, against the City of Rockford’s decision to remove a percentage of city-owned street lights.
The march will begin at the Public Safety Building, 420 W. State St., and end at Rockford City Hall, 425 E. State St. Those attending are encouraged to bring flashlights and/or candles.
The City of Rockford, after a vote by the city council, decided to remove 2,300 of 14,000 city-owned street lights in attempts to shave $500,000 off its $3 million ComEd bill for street lights. ComEd has until the end of the year to remove the 2,300 lights, and about 1,500 have already been removed.
In addition to the Nov. 26 march, Occupy Rockford is also suggesting those opposed to the removal of the street lights share their views by contacting the mayor’s office at (815) 987-5590 or larry.morrissey@rockfordil.gov [1].
