Law and Government Exploring Program open house Nov. 30 at Memorial Hall

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s office and Blackhawk Area Council have joined efforts to offer a Law and Government Exploring Program to help local youth learn about law and government as a career.
The program will provide an opportunity for students to learn what a career in law and government entails, through hands-on activities led by skilled attorneys.
The Law and Government Exploring Program is for youth, ages 14-20, with a career interest in law and government. An open house for interested students and their parents will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main St., Rockford.
At this event, students will be introduced to careers in law and government, be informed of the scheduled program activities, and have the opportunity to register. The only cost of the program will be a $10 application fee, made payable to Blackhawk Area Council.
Donald Kinney, scout executive for Blackhawk Area Council, said: “The Exploring program may be the most important career education opportunity for students in our community. It is a unique way to bring young men and women of high school age into a close association with professionals from various companies and career fields. It gives them a truly unique insight and helps them to decide on their next steps in career readiness. Their partnership with the Exploring program demonstrates the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s active engagement in this community on behalf of young people.”
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato added: “The Office of State’s Attorney is committed to supporting programs that help guide and mold the future of young people. Scouting programs, including the ‘Explorer’s Post’ experience, achieve that goal.”
