RVC Old Towne Band concert features 1920 silent film
The wildly popular Rock Valley College Old Town Band will present two free concerts at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3 in the College’s Performing Arts Room in the Library Building, 3301 N. Mulford Road.
The band will provide live music to the hilarious silent film comedy, One Week, starring Buster Keaton.
In this film, Buster and his new wife endeavor to construct a kit house in one week but don’t realize that Buster’s rival has changed the numbers on the boxes. Add in Buster’s questionable construction skills, and the house ends up looking like no other.
The Old Towne Band is part of Rock Valley College’s Community Education program. The 25-piece adult band specializes in playing popular American band music from the early 20th century such as ragtime, Dixieland, circus marches, novelties, boogie-woogie and early swing music.
Several “surprised guest soloists” will be selected from the audience to perform with the band on such traditional instruments as the siren whistle, popping balloons, and the ever-popular whoopie cushion.
With the band’s usual mix of lively music, audience participation and stupid jokes, a fun evening of musical entertainment is guaranteed for the entire family. Children are especially welcome.
