Charlotte’s Web for the Performing Arts will present Robin & Linda Williams and Their Fine Group in concert at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, at Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, 415 N. Church St., Rockford.

Robin and Linda Williams have been working their magic on stage for 36 years, and their discography spans 30 years. Joined by Their Fine Group (Jim Watson on mandolin and vocals and Chris Brashear on fiddle and mandolin), this is one roots music outfit that is “comfortable being nicheless,” says Robin Williams.

Past masters of roots music, their repertoire encompasses country, traditional, bluegrass, modern folk, and Southern gospel. A good bit of that repertoire consists of original tunes.

Because they have such a deep selection from which to draw, the range of material one might hear during a Robin and Linda Williams concert is quite broad and eclectic. Their gift for grasping such a breadth of material with conviction makes Robin and Linda and Their Fine Group, a true delight in concert: a folksy band that is nicheless, yet noteworthy and timeless.

For more than 35 years, Robin and Linda Williams have delighted audiences with a blend of bluegrass, folk, old-time and acoustic country that truly merits the title of “American music.” Robin and Linda are frequent guests on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion on NPR and were featured in the recent Robert Altman film by the same name.

This performance marks their first return to the Web stage since March 2008. They are no strangers to Rockford, having performed at Charlotte’s Web since the early 1970s.
