Beloit Regional Hospice needs your help
Change is the only thing we can count on. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Always remember that the future comes one day at a time.
Familiar old sayings are often appropriate and in the case of 2011 at Beloit Regional Hospice, these phrases are right on target. The organization has responded to a record number of requests for service for hospice, Transitions and grief support.
• In July, the hospice program peaked at a census of 94 patients served in a day — 20 patients more than projected for that time frame.
• The Transitions program has increased the number of individuals facing life-limiting illness receiving support by more than 20 percent this year.
• Our Grief Support program continues to serve anyone in the area who has suffered a loss through death. In 2011, our service to youth expanded with 17 grief support groups meeting in 13 area schools.
Beloit Regional Hospice also faces the addition of increased hospice competition to our area. Competition is a natural occurrence, and we continue to believe that families deserve a choice in all areas of health care. Beloit Regional Hospice (BRH) has been committed to serving the stateline communities since 1982, and we believe that the personal attention and quality of care we deliver distinguishes us from our competitors. All hospice organizations in the United States face the challenge of planning for cuts to the Medicare hospice benefit that will reduce reimbursement up to 14 percent over the next three years. BRH remains committed to serving all who need our care, regardless of ability to pay.
2011 also marked the first change in leadership in more than 10 years at Beloit Regional Hospice. This letter introduces the new executive director, Mary Anne Miller, to our organization and to the community. The BRH leadership looks forward to new opportunities and to working with our community partners to continue to provide the highest quality end-of-life care.
