Man sentenced to 15 years for residential burglary

Joey Harris, 39, pled guilty to residential burglary and was sentenced to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections Dec. 12.
June 16, 2010, a woman reported she awoke to find an intruder in her home in the 300 block of Cameron Avenue. The man was standing at her refrigerator, and she chased him from the residence. She recognized him as someone she had seen in the neighborhood. When she came back to the residence, she discovered the man had taken some food, as well as keys and a bicycle. The victim later identified Harris as the person she saw in her home.
Residential burglary is a class 1 felony with a sentencing range of four to 15 years in the Department of Corrections, followed by two years of mandatory supervised release. Because of the defendant’s previous criminal record, he was subject to class X sentencing ranging from six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by three years mandatory supervised release.
