Durand teacher gets four years probation for child porn, indecent solicitation charges

Brett Meier, 43, pled guilty to the charges of child pornography and indecent solicitation of a child Dec. 21. The defendant was sentenced by Judge Joseph McGraw to four years probation for the offense of child pornography and 30 months probation for the offense of indecent solicitation of a child. The sentences will be served concurrent.
Detectives were assigned to interview a student in reference to a potential inappropriate relationship between Brett Meier, a teacher at Durand High School, and a student victim who was younger than 18. The victim told detectives that between November 2008 and January 2009 Meier began sending the victim photos of his exposed genitals to the victim’s cell phone. The victim received photos on at least four occasions. The victim showed one of the photos to a friend. In January 2009, Meier sent the victim a video of himself engaged in a sexual act. Meier asked the victim to send him photos of the victim’s nude body, which the victim did. Meier texted the victim asking the victim to have sex with him and to give him oral sex in the classroom.
Child pornography is a class 1 felony with a sentencing range of probation or four to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by two years mandatory supervised release. Indecent solicitation of a child is class 3 felony with a sentencing range of probation or two to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.
