‘Let Freedom Ring!’ King Day celebration Jan. 16 at Mendelssohn

Staff Report

Sounds Of Good News (SOGN) Productions invites all to attend their Sixth Annual “Let Freedom Ring” concert, a musical community celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

This festive event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16, at Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, 415 N. Church St. The performance will feature the Young Eagles Soaring Inspirational Choir, releasing their new “FIGHT RIGHT” music DVD project for “Non-Violence and Crime.” Special guest speaker will be retired Auburn High School teacher Wanda L. Hill.

This event is free to the public, but donations will benefit the Young Eagles Success (YES) Club of character development and excellence for kids. The program is under the leadership of Carl and Dianna Cole and will promote the release of the new music video DVD. Also featured will be presentations from regional schools including Rockford’s West and Kennedy middle schools, Rockford’s Washington Gifted Academy, Rockford’s Galapagos Charter, Rockford’s Lewis Lemon Academy and Machesney Park’s Harlem High School. Enjoy music, “historic” facts and fun! A special “Young Eagle STAR” (YES) award will be given to a student in tribute to the legacy of Chicago legendary performer Julian Swain.

The celebration is co-sponsored by St. Paul Lutheran Church. For more information, call Dianna Cole at (815) 914-1487, e-mail MsCSOGN@aol.com, or visit www.soundsofgoodnew.com.
