District 205, Rockford Police renew liaison contract
Staff Report
The Rockford Police Department signed a two-year contract with District 205 to continue providing police liaison officers to monitor school security during the school day and for after-school events. The contract, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2012 through Dec. 21, 2013, has District 205 funding 13 full-time Rockford Police officers, including a supervising sergeant.
All liaison officers undergo training to become certified youth officers in addition to the standardized police officer training provided by the Department. The liaison officers work eight hours per school day and are responsible for law enforcement, investigating crimes that take place in the assigned District schools, coordinating with the District on security issues, providing emergency assistance, and making classroom presentations and holding educational sessions upon request.

Could we PLEASE get rid of the “security” personnel who have NO authority in the schools and replace them with police officers??? I would like to see learning return to the classrooms–teachers teaching instead of wasting valuable time trying to deal with disruptive students!! When there is a police officer in the schools, there is less disruption and beligerance by students.
