The male trio Brother Sun, featuring Pat Wictor, Greg Greenway and Rockford native Joe Jencks, will be performing at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 920 Third Ave., Rockford, at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10. Tickets are $15. For ticket information, contact Cathy Rennert at (815) 968-1157 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rich Warren of Chicago’s WFMT Midnight Special said of the trio: “What happens when you unite three of the best male singers in the folk realm who already revel in harmony singing? Brother Sun. While numerous delightful female trios harmonize, few men bond that way these days (unlike the days of the folk revival when they were the norm). Added to great voices, energy and sincerity are worthy compositions in three distinct styles that bring to mind a modern-day gospel.”
National touring artists Wictor, Greenway and Jencks have joined forces and formed a dynamic new male trio. Calling upon contemporary songwriting, and informed by the deep roots of gospel, blues and folk, the trio weaves a tapestry of harmony that is brilliantly fresh and yet familiar. Their combined musical skills make for an unforgettable experience — three rich voices blending on a well-crafted foundation of guitar, slide guitar and piano.
Brother Sun’s self-titled album debuted on the Folk DJ charts at No. 2 in July and has remained on the chart for six of the last seven months, and was the No. 8 album of 2011 on FOLK-DJ, and made many folk DJ favorites lists for 2011.
