More than 200 young voices from several children’s and youth choirs from the Rockford area will join together at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12, for the 53rd Annual Youth Choir Festival.
The festival, presented by the Rockford Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, 200 N. First St., Rockford. Admission is free, although a freewill offering will be taken.
Youth choirs from the Rockford area and Oak Park, Ill., will participate in the festival, which is guest conducted by Daniele Bruhn, founder and musical director of the Fox Valley Children’s Chorus.
Bruhn holds a master of church music degree from Concordia University in River Forest, Ill. For nearly 30 years, she worked as a church musician with particular interest in children’s choirs. In 2006, she founded the Fox Valley Children’s Chorus, a community chorus for children in second grade through age 15, girls and boys with unchanged voices. The chorus is based in Batavia and draws singers from several communities in the Fox Valley.
The following three featured choirs will join eight children’s and youth choirs from the Rockford area:
Kantorei, the Singing Boys of Rockford — Directed by Joel Ross, Brad Koloch and Trudy Anderson;
Holy Family Student Choir from Rockford — Directed by Jessica Koenig; and
Schola Choir of Grace Episcopal from Oak Park, Ill. — Directed by Dr. Dennis Northway.
Several organists from the Rockford Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will play and/or accompany the singing.
A reception will follow the concert in Anderson Hall.
