Benefit for Charlotte’s Web Feb. 18 at Mendelssohn

Staff Report

Between Planes (spin-off trio of Rockford’s favorite reunited band, Emery Christiansen) is hosting a benefit concert and party to support Charlotte’s Web for the Performing Arts. This event will be at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, at Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, 415 N. Church St., Rockford.

Emery Christiansen is an original rock band that emerged in the early ’80s to great applause and acclaim, who performed regularly on the original Charlotte’s Web stage at 728 First Ave. The band reunited last January to give a surprise SRO benefit concert at Katie’s Cup, where more than $1,000 was raised to benefit Charlotte’s Web.

Between Planes is Ron Holm, John Bishoff and Dave Timmke. Individually and collectively, they’ve shared billing with artists ranging from Odetta to Roy Orbison; Greg Brown to the Everly Brothers. Between Planes evokes timeless musical energy with original compositions and unique interpretations of American roots music.

For this season’s benefit concert, Between Planes has upped the ante: they’ve chosen a larger venue, Mendelssohn PAC, invited Kryptonite Bar to cater drinks and Kate Sullivan to bring her fresh-baked pies. They’ve also contacted some incredible artists to join them. The list of guest artists reads like a Who’s Who on the local music scene and includes newgrass/hard-country rising star Max Benson; original band members from Emery Christiansen; lap steel, dobro, guitar virtuoso Dave “DK” Kolars; stunning classical to country artist Janel Nelson; RVC Rocky Horror Picture Show star Samantha Owen; legendary jazz to gospel Dorothy Paige-Turner; and Neil Young “Living With War” song winner Ron Rawhoof, just to name a few. More surprise guest artists are expected to join the party and keep folks dancing all night long! Proceeds support Charlotte’s Web for the Performing Arts in honor of their 40th Anniversary Season. Doors open at 6:30, so come early, have a drink and a piece of pie before taking your seat.
