Man guilty of aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon

Earl Boyd, 40, was found guilty of aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon after a jury trial in front of Judge John Truitt.
Aug. 23, 2010, police were called to 119 S. Day Ave., Rockford, in reference to a shooting. Police observed that the rear of a Pontiac Grand Am in the driveway had been struck three times by gunfire, as well as that there were two bullet holes in the front door of the house. Witnesses saw Boyd with a gun that evening, and an eyewitness saw Boyd with a gun heading in the direction of 119 S. Day St., before hearing multiple gunshots.
Aggravated discharge of a firearm is a class 1 felony with a penalty range of four to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections plus two years MSR.
Unlawful possession of weapons by a felon is a class 2 felony with a sentencing range of three to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections plus two years MSR.
Sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 19, in courtroom 314.
