Chandler Starr Miller Scholarship Competition Winners’ Recital Feb. 26

The first-place winners of the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center’s 51st Annual Chandler Starr Miller Scholarship Competition will perform in a Winners’ Recital at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 26, at Second Congregational United Church of Christ, 318 N. Church St., Rockford.

The first-place winner in each of 12 competition divisions will perform their pieces, and all competitors will be recognized.

Recital admission is $5 for adults and $1 for students. Admission is free for this year’s competitors, their teachers and accompanists. An informal reception will follow the recital.

The scholarship competition will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, at several downtown Rockford locations. More than 100 students from northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, ages third grade through college, will compete for monetary awards in 12 musical divisions, including piano, strings, voice, and non-string orchestral instruments.

Prominent adjudicators from throughout the region will evaluate the students and critique their performances.
