‘Undefeated,’ documentary co-directed by former Rockford resident with music by Rockford residents, wins Oscar

Former Rockford resident Daniel Lindsay and Rockford residents Miles Nielsen and Daniel James McMahon hoisted Oscar awards Sunday, Feb. 26, after their film, Undefeated, won an Academy Award in the documentary feature category.

Lindsay co-directed the film while Nielsen and McMahon, both local musicians, scored the instrumental music for the film.

Undefeated is about an inner-city, underprivileged Memphis, Tenn., high school football team. The story is told through the perspective of three student athletes and a volunteer coach. Lindsay is a 1997 graduate of Rockford Boylan Catholic High School. To shoot the film, he rented a Memphis apartment with co-director T.J. Martin and producer Rich Middlemas between July 2009 and March 2010.

Undefeated opens Friday, March 2, in Chicago, Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Memphis, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Detroit and Washington, D.C.
