You Are A Twisting Tornado by Angela Malavolti (Jumgle Wagon Press, 2011, ISBN: 978-0-9834092-0-5) is a colorful, imaginative expression of how a parent sees an energetic 3-year-old busily exploring his world.
Malavolti’s simple two-line rhymes describing the child’s everyday adventures are perfectly accompanied by Michael Stiffler’s eye-catching illustrations. The fluid, bright colors move through the book with a symphony of ever-increasing volume building to a crescendo of delight as the mother discovers more facets of her child’s personality.
The young boy’s varying moods are compared to various weather conditions that one might encounter in an ever-changing Midwestern landscape. In fact, the author is the mother of a boisterous 3-year-old son “whose temperament changes unexpectedly from blue sky to tornado,” as we’re told in “About the Author.” The story is followed by a two-page section of “Fun Facts” about the weather.
You Are a Twisting Tornado is an ideal introductory book for children just learning about the world around them. Parents can read the story while the child looks at the engaging pictures. It is available from Jungle Wagon Press at www.junglewagonpress.com. The book can also be ordered from your local bookseller.
