The poems of Cleo Johnson speak to every one of us. That is their strength. She uses concise language and style to make her poem and speaks for all of us.
Cleo Johnson is a member of Wednesday Writers and Womanspace. She’s a retired teacher, mom, grandma and world traveler. Though she is reticent about her writing, I think she has much to say, and I know you will, too.
Just For Today
For just one day:
Let my mind wander to places so pure
That the wind roams freely
The flowers stand still
The sounds of the creatures
Rustling are unnoticed and unaffected
By the sounds of storms far away
Let my mind be carefree
With happy thoughts untethered
Worries shut down in a cauldron of peace
Resting for a day to regroup in a place
Which will cause no harm
No avalanche of consequences
Let my mind have space, a time-out room
A sanctuary from the imaginings
And ramblings of a world gone busy
It needs a place where there is no judgment
No cruelty or sadness by people and events
A place of quiet, warmth, softness and acceptance
Just one day off
Just one day of total peace
Just for today
