March 12 community forum to address proposed changes at Roosevelt, Page Park schools

A community forum to address proposed changes to the alternative education programs at Rockford’s Roosevelt Alternative High and Page Park public schools will be at 4:30 p.m., Monday, March 12, in the auditorium at Roosevelt Alternative High, 987 Haskell Ave.
Rockford Public School District 205 is considering outsourcing teaching staff at both schools and hiring the for-profit corporation Educational Services of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., for its Ombudsman Educational Services program.
The Ombudsman program would be a partially-based online teaching platform. Click here [1] to read a series of e-mails from teachers, parents and students about the proposed changes.
In addition to the changes at Roosevelt and Page Park, the district is also considering implementing the program in a lesser capacity at four high schools (Auburn, Jefferson, Guilford and East), two middle schools and two elementary schools.
The March 12 forum is organized by Rockford Partners for Excellence. Sources involved with organizing the event have said requests to have a member of the District 205 administration attend the forum have been unsuccessful.
Many sources have also alleged that although the district is still accepting public input on the proposed changes, the changes are more of a “done deal” than a proposal.
The Ombudsman program is expected to be discussed at the Rockford Board of Education’s Education Committee meeting at 5 p.m., Monday, April 2. The Education Committee meets in room 207 of the Administration Building, 201 S. Madison St., Rockford.
Roberta Edwards, executive coordinator to the superintendent and the board of education, said March 6 that a vote by the full board on the Ombudsman program was not expected until at least the April 10 or April 24 Board of Education meeting.
