Rally against cutbacks at Rockford Public Library at 5 p.m., March 14

Stand Up! Rockford will host a rally outside Rockford Public Library’s Main Branch, 215 N. Wyman St., at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 14.
According to a press release from the group, the rally will oppose the slashing of services and cutbacks at the library.
“Working families and community advocates will hold a rally to call on the rich to pay their share of the tax burden to stop cuts to Rockford’s library system,” the press release said. “Cutbacks to the city’s community library will hurt seniors, students and low-income families who won’t be able to access public resources.
“The current plan being debated to cut the Rockford Library will hurt those who are unemployed and who use the library as a resource to search for and apply to jobs.
“Stand Up! Rockford is a coalition of community and civic groups, labor organizations, students, and working families who are fighting for a fair economy,” the press release said. “Our mission is to stop the horrific budget cuts affecting low-income families, seniors and students, and start requiring corporations and millionaires to pay their fair share of the tax burden.”
