One of the oldest races in Rockford, the OSF Heritage Run, will be held in downtown Rockford Sunday afternoon, April 22.
The Heritage Run, now in its 28th consecutive year, will begin at 1 p.m. and will include events for the entire family with special activities geared to children.
OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center is the major sponsor of the race, which benefits the YMCA’s Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
The YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day will be a part of activities at this year’s race. Activities will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and will include health information booths, inflatables, a photo booth and appearances by the OSF Saint Anthony therapy dogs.
The OSF Heritage Run includes a 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) race, a 2-mile run, a 2-mile family walk and a kids’ half-mile fun run.
The 10k and 2-mile races begin at 1 p.m. on Wyman, near State Street. Both races are part of the Rockford Road Runners’ Race Circuit. Scoring will be by chip timing, which ensures accurate race results being available quickly.
Activities for kids will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. They will include health information activities, inflatables, a photo booth and appearances by the OSF Saint Anthony therapy dogs.
Registration fee for the 10-km and 2-mile races is $28 before the event and $30 the day of the race. A $7 entry fee is charged for youngsters participating in the kids’ fun run.
Runners may register by mail to Big Brothers Big Sisters, YMCA, 200 Y Blvd., Rockford, IL 61107, or online at www.rockfordymca.org. Registration forms are available at the Rockford YMCA, Runners Image and the OSF Center for Health.
