Election Day: County Clerk’s Office discovers flaw in ballots, but assures votes will be tabulated

The Winnebago County Clerk’s Office has discovered an issue with some of the county ballots as a result of a vendor error in production.
The county ballots are too large for the scanning machines, which does not allow for electronic tabulation by the machines at the polling places.
The vendor has admitted several counties throughout Illinois are experiencing the same issue.
A press release from the Winnebago County Clerk’s Office said: “This issue does not affect anyone’s ability to cast a vote. It does not affect anyone who has voted today or voted early. It will not be necessary for anyone to re-vote. All ballots will be tabulated and counted. Both the Republican and Democratic party chairmen have been contacted and advised of the issue.”
County Clerk Margie Mullins said, “The Office of the County Clerk wants to assure the citizens of Winnebago County that each and every vote will be properly counted.”
Polls in the city of Rockford will remain open until 7 p.m., March 20.

Winnebago County Republicans will celebrate on election night at Giovanni’s Restaurant, 610 N. Bell School Road, Rockford. Candidates, supporters and voters will gather beginning at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 20.
The Winnebago County Democratic Party will host its election night party at Electrical Workers Union Hall, 6820 Mill Road, Rockford, beginning at 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 20.
Winners in the March 20 primary will appear on the Nov. 6, 2012, general election.
