March 22 meeting to explore creating northwestern Illinois canoe, kayak club

FREEPORT, Ill. — The Friends of the Pecatonica River Foundation (FPRF) will host an informational meeting about starting a canoe and kayak club in northwestern Illinois and southwestern Wisconsin at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 22, at the Freeport Public Library, 100 E. Douglas St., Freeport, Ill.

The purpose of the meeting is to determine the level of interest in forming a paddling club. More than 565 canoes and kayaks are registered in Stephenson County and more than 5,500 are registered in the six-county region of northwestern Illinois.

Discussion will include “Learning a Lifetime Sport”; points of access on the Pecatonica, Sugar, Rock, Kishwaukee, Platte, Plum and other rivers in the area; joining the American Canoe Association; and a PowerPoint presentation about “Illinois’ Friendliest Paddle.”
