Former Chicago White Sox closer and current Boston Red Sox reliever Bobby Jenks was arrested in Ft. Myers, Fla., at 3:43 a.m., Friday, March 23.
The 248-pound pitcher, who is currently on the 60-day disabled list, was charged with driving under the influence, property damage and hit-and-run. Click here [2] to view his charging report.
Jenks, 31, who spent six seasons on the South Side with the White Sox, was a key part of the 2005 World Series championship team. As a rookie that season, he registered two saves in the World Series, including the Game 4 1-0 shutout of the Houston Astros that clinched the Sox’s first World Series championship since 1917.
Jenks made two All-Star appearances in 2006 and 2007. He has a career 3.53 ERA with 173 career saves — all with the White Sox. He was 2-2 with an ERA of 6.32 in 19 games with the Red Sox last season, his first after being acquired by the team as a free agent.
Since joining the Red Sox, Jenks has been hampered by injuries. He had a scare of a pulmonary embolism that delayed surgery on his back until Dec. 12, 2011, and he was back on the operating table 18 days later after developing an infection in his spine.
